RE: ? on driving down the road in a class C
Can't imagine my hubby telling me to "go make me a sandwich"! There probably isn't a seatbelt anywhere that would protect him!
RE: Bad LP gas alarm?
Don't kid yourself that it's nothing. They can be set off from a number of things, including problems with the inner workings of your fridge (that's what set ours off once), etc., so get it checked out, don't assume it's just going bad.
RE: run generator all night to run heater fan?
Install a catalytic heater in a central location. That's what we did, so that we don't need electricity at all to heat with propane. Most times we don't heat at night anyway, just add covers and snuggle, then turn on the furnace in the morning to warm things up quickly, and start the catalytic heater for continuous warmth while the furnace takes the chill off. If it's really too cold for just extra blankets, we run the catalytic heater all night. And there's no battery drain.
We had one in our fifth wheel, installed under the fridge so it tied right in to the propane lines already there, and that way we kept the main part of it warm, but were able to keep our bedroom cool. In our class C, it's pretty much in the center of the thing by the door, as again, we tied it into below the fridge.
You could install below the stove also, but you stand there longer than you do in front of the fridge, and it gets hot to stay that close for too long.
RE: Multiple tie-out question
We use the retractable leashes, and hook them by the handle to whatever we want to be the point of "tie down", which is usually the handle next to the door of the RV. That way they tangle up less, as the leashes go in and out of the handle as they move. As long as there isn't loose rope, or cable, or whatever, being drug around, they seem to stay untangled better.
RE: Boy, do I stink!
We've found if we have the bathroom fan vent open, then open the front windows, it will draw the smell from the vent pipe back in through the bathroom fan opening because the air flow direction will be towards the front when we have our windows down. So we keep the fan opening closed when traveling if we're going to have the windows open in front.
Our bathroom sink is also plumbed into the black tank.
RE: using toilet we get bad odor
As CA Traveler says, be sure that the seal is functioning, and there is a layer of water in the toilet after you flush it to keep the smells from rising through the closed toilet. You do need to have water in the tank besides the urine, or the concentration of urine will overpower you for sure. It won't matter if you have feces and urine, or just urine in the tank if you have an abundance of water mixed in also.
RE: Un-install help please!
Avast can be found for free at Avast.com. It also has paid versions, but I've found the free one does all I need, and I haven't noticed any slow down on the 4 different computers I use it on.
RE: This is too cute
We met some people that had a "kitty" door in the bathroom cabinet, that lead to a ramp down into the underbelly storage where they kept the litter box. We thought that was pretty creative!
RE: excessive heat in cab
What we did to help with the problem: Hubby closed off the middle vent, and then ran a vacuum hose from the inside of the vent down to the floor of the passenger side of the cab. This way, when the air conditioner or the "vent" for outside air is turned on to cool us, it also cools the passenger feet.
When it's cool enough to need heat, it's not a problem, but when it's so warm that we need air, there wasn't an option to direct it towards the floor, and having it just go up above didn't help the lower part of the cab. This resolves that problem.
You can't see what he did, it's all inside the dash, and the hose is behind the dash, but what a difference it makes!
RE: Un-install help please!
Personally, I've found that AVG also uses too much of my memory to do what it does. I've gone over to Avast to avoid those slow downs also.
RE: Alaska bound
We just did that cruise last summer with friends. We found that there wasn't much time at each port to do more than tour the town, or maybe go see some of the closer sites, as you're usually only in port from mid morning to mid afternoon, to early evening.
The ship will have tours that you can sign up for at each port, highlighting the best things to see in each one, or you can go see them on your own. We looked online at each of the city's chamber of commerce sites to get ideas ahead of time also.
Enjoy the trip, the sites are wonderful!
RE: leaking cab over
We had the same problem with ours, but the leak came from the seam that goes over the top and down the side a short way, joining the front piece with the rest of the top. Where the seam came down over the edge, it met the gutter along the side. The force of the water leaving the end of the gutter, actually ran water uphill into the end of the seam. This water then went down the inside of the wall and under the over cab bed.
We saw no water marks, so had no clue. Till one day, I'm standing by the bed putting sheets on it, and hubby moves the motor home a few feet over rough ground. As it swayed, I heard "sloshing" where I was standing. That's when we raised the mattress, and it was wet from underneath.
Hubby drilled holes in the underside of the overhead cab, and water ran out of these holes for almost 30 minutes at a steady stream. There had to be gallons of water in there that we weren't aware of.
It took us weeks to figure out where it came in from. The dealer did all the high pressure air with soap, etc., as mentioned above, but it didn't show the leak as it came from outside to the inside of the wall, to under the bed.
We had to shorten the gutter a few inches so the water would exit before it came near the end of the seam, and seal the end of the seam.
RE: dry camping and boondocking--check
We just don't know where we're going to be from one night to the next when we take a trip, so don't have any way to make reservations at a campground. So, we spend a lot of time stopping at Wal-Marts, etc. If I tried to make plans where I'd be each night, I'd just be out my reservation money anyway, as I have a bad habit of seeing a road that looks good, and "off we go" whether it's on the way to our destination or not!
RE: La[top Battery
Something so many of us do, too, is leave our batteries continuously in our laptops while we have them plugged into AC power. This keeps the battery warm, and cab burn them up, the same way leaving the batteries turned on to "charge" in your RV will burn them up if left to charge for weeks on end without using them.
When I got my first laptop years ago, I was told to remove my battery after it's charged, and keep it out of my laptop unless I was using it, or recharging it after it was dead, as even Lithium batteries will overheat and burn up, even if they aren't supposed to form a memory like the Ni-cad ones did.
I know a lot of batteries now have a "smart charge" feature to keep them from over charging, but they will still get warm, and that'll drain them as if you're using them, so I just keep on following the old philosophy of removing it when not using it.
RE: I have found a way to keep rving................
Ah, ha! You're all toast! The guy that works at the post office read all your responses, so he's going to look for the package with your name on it, and get it before you do! The guys said not to tell!
RE: Who's the Boss?
That's one of those pictures that needs to be submitted somewhere!!! I don't know where, but it would win a prize in just about any competition! So funny!
RE: changing email asddress
I've been getting error messages also when I post a response, but the response gets put on the page anyway. Seems something is going on, but isn't major!
RE: Play Barking
I have to agree with Pawz4me about the barking (and the dog whisperer). Although ours don't bark when they play, they make a weird growling noise at each other. The Whisperer would say that was aggressive too, I would imagine.
I see the barking and growling during play as a way to "vocalize", just like the hooting and hollering we do when we're playing. If it's not done during times that are not play, then why worry about it?
